The following is a list of ways in which Pine violates the standard set by a RFC. The purpose of this list, is to make it disappear when these problems are fixed.

• Pine uses the "X-X-Sender" header to identify the real sender of a message. This is wrong, because RFC 2822 says that the Sender: header must be used in this case. Given that Pine tries to implement RFC2822, this is a way in which a standard is violated.
• The UW-IMAP server issues the following message: "NO CLIENT BUG DETECTED: STATUS on selected mailbox", which means that a STATUS command was issued on a mailbox that is already opened. The message is according to the corresponding RFC, written by the same implementor of this server, and it is considered a violation of the standard. However, Pine falls into this trap and does a STATUS command on an opened mailbox. Just add the same mailbox as your INBOX and as an Incoming-Folder. Press TAB from INBOX and you will see the message. The funniest part of all, is the comment in the source code that goes with this message:
